While the entire community was in a jealousy-inducing jubilant mood as the refurbished facilities were handed over to the local authorities, female citizens certainly celebrated the moment the most. Women make up a minority of the detainees at the Pibor police station, and their needs differ from those of male suspects.
With torrential rains halting aid flights, the situation could get much worse quickly, warned Oxfam today. More than half the population — over 7 million people — are already facing extreme hunger, including nearly 79, people facing starvation, which is more than double that of last year. Thousands of people both young and old are hungry and children are severely malnourished; many people are going for days without anything to eat.
PAH, together with Salvation and Light Development Action SLDA , has decided to move forward with support for communities facing enormous challenges in Pibor County, South Sudan. The joint effort between the two organizations aims not only to provide humanitarian aid, but also to sustainably support the economic development of local communities by strengthening their resilience to future emergencies. With PHA and SLDA working directly with local communities, project activities will be deeply rooted in the realities of daily life there. In four regions — Vertet, Likuangole, Pibor and Gumuruk — people will be supported, divided into 25 groups of 25 people each.
